APGA Awards


Each year APGA presents awards to recognize individuals within our organization who have gone above and beyond to represent the interests of APGA and public gas. 


Formal award presentations take place at APGA’s Annual Conference in July.

Communications & Marketing Award

Recognizes APGA public natural gas systems that have worked hard to market natural gas this past year, such as through innovative and successful marketing programs, branding initiatives or customer service campaigns.

Community Service Award

Recognizes an APGA public gas system member for the accomplishments of the gas system and its employees in improving and enhancing the quality of life of the community it serves.

Distinguished Service Award

Recognizes an individual that holds a management position with an APGA public gas system member and has been active in APGA for at least five years who has made substantial contributions to the public gas industry, maintains an unusual devotion to duty, exemplifies the highest ideals and finest traditions in the management of publicly owned natural gas systems, and has made contributions to the betterment of the community. 

Excellence in Environmental Stewardship Award

Recognizes an APGA public gas system member that demonstrates excellence in their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Harry M. Cooke Personal Service Award

Recipient has made substantial contributions toward the goals of APGA and the natural gas industry.  Nominee is an employee of an APGA associate member company, state or regional association, or joint action member company.

J. Hardie Johnston Service Recognition

Recognizes individuals who are retiring after serving 25 years in the gas service business and have participated as an APGA system member or joint action agency representative. Nominees must retire in the year they receive the award.  

Next Generation Employee Achievement Award 

Recognizes up to two recipients each year – a field worker and a professional – who are 35 years and younger from APGA member companies that have made substantial contributions toward the goals of their utility, APGA, and the natural gas industry.

Personal Achievement Award

Recognizes an employee of an APGA public gas system member who has made substantial contributions toward the goals of APGA and the natural gas industry.

Public Gas System Achievement Award

Recognizes an APGA public gas system member that has been an active member of APGA for at least five (5) years; whose performance is widely recognized in the public gas industry; and which has made substantial contributions to the community, other utilities and the goals of APGA. The winning system has expressed a willingness to exchange ideas and technology with others to ensure the gas industry will be the safest and most knowledgeable of all utilities. 

Public Gas System Good Samaritan Award 

Recognizes an APGA member system employee(s) whose service to the community goes above and beyond their job duties by positively impacting lives during an emergency.

Safety Management Excellence Award

Recognizes an APGA member system that consistently operates at the highest safety levels and has demonstrated a dedication to implementing impactful employee safety programs. The winning system clearly demonstrates excellence in the field of Safety Management.

Safety Contest Award

Recognizes APGA system members based on the systems' overall incident (lost work time) rate.

System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Program

Recognizes those public gas systems that have achieved excellence in the operation of their natural gas utility.
