Preserving the Direct Use of Natural Gas

Natural gas is directly responsible for drastic reductions in emissions and provides American homes and businesses with an affordable energy source.

As well, natural gas appliances are three times as efficient when used directly inside the home as when it is used to generate electricity because so much energy is lost when converting and transmitting electricity. Direct use of natural gas in the home translates into lower energy bills for consumers, as well as emissions reductions.

Carbon dioxide emissions from residences using natural gas are about 22% lower than those attributable to a typical all-electric home. Plus, Homes that use natural gas save an average of $1000 per year compared to a typical electric home.

APGA works with its members to evaluate how new federal legislative and regulatory proposals will impact direct use. We advocate for a fuel-neutral, “all of the above” approach to energy policy.
