APGA is the only not-for-profit trade organization representing America's publicly owned natural gas local distribution companies (LDCs). APGA represents the interests of public gas before Congress, federal agencies and other energy-related stakeholders by developing regulatory and legislative policies that further the goals of our members. About APGA

Dave Schryver became American Public Gas Association's President and CEO on January 1, 2020. Dave has been with APGA since 2004 and was serving as APGA's Executive Vice President since 2006. In this role, Dave oversaw many of APGA’s legislative and regulatory activities and its staff in advocating for its more than 700 publicly- and community-owned natural gas utility members. Dave has testified in front of Congress, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Before joining APGA, Dave worked for the American Public Power Association (APPA) as a Senior Government Relations Representative where he represented the APPA’s interests before Congress and was the staff liaison for APPA's Policy Makers Council which is made up of elected and appointed officials from public power communities. Dave also managed the Government Affairs Department for Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU), a publicly-owned utility that provides electricity, natural gas, water, and wastewater services to over 600,000 customers in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado. Dave also served on the Board of the National Water Resources Association during his time at CSU. At CSU, Dave saw firsthand the many benefits provided by having a publicly-owned utility within the community.

Earlier, Dave worked on Capitol Hill for seven years for Senator John Breaux (D-Louisiana). In this role, he advised the Senator on regulatory and legislative issues related to energy and the environment.

Dave is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with degrees in history and political science. Keeping up to date with the best managerial and operating practices for association professionals, Dave earned the American Society of Association Executives's (ASAE) Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential. He has also received the Institute of Organization Management's (IOM) graduate recognition after completing their four-year comprehensive course.

Dave is married with two children. He enjoys playing and coaching ice hockey.

Dave Schryver

President & CEO

Erin Kurilla is the Executive Vice President, Vice President of Advocacy and Operations at American Public Gas Association. She joined the trade association in 2017. In her role, Erin manages APGA’s engagement in legislative and regulatory affairs aiming to advance the goals of public natural gas utilities. She also works closely with member systems, federal and state regulators to improve the safety and reliability of the nation’s pipeline infrastructure. She directly supports the APGA Operations and Safety Committee and its Environmental and Damage Prevention subcommittees. Erin is also the Chief Operating Officer of the APGA SECURITY AND INTEGRITY FOUNDATION (SIF), a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to promoting the security, operational integrity and safety of natural gas distribution and utilization facilities.

Erin holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University

Erin Kurilla

Executive Vice President & Vice President of Advocacy & Operations

Renée has served as the General Counsel for APGA since January 2024. In her role, she manages legal risk for the association, as well as develops and deploys legal strategy, while collaborating with technical and policy staff to provide input on regulations and legislation that could impact the business of public gas utilities. She also provides legal counsel to APGA's associated 501(c)(3)'s: the APGA Research Foundation and the APGA Security and Integrity Foundation.

Renée joined APGA as its Director of Regulatory Affairs in 2020. In that position, she led APGA's regulatory and codes and standards advocacy, with a focus on end-use and gas supply. Prior to joining APGA, Renée was a Manager with the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Chemical Products and Technology Division. In her role, she managed several self-funded sector groups, developing and leading their international, federal, and state advocacy efforts.

Renée holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Energy, Business, & Finance, both from the Pennsylvania State University. Renée also has her Juris Doctor from the Maryland Carey School of Law where she completed certificate programs in both Business and Environmental law. She is a member in good standing of the D.C. and Maryland bars.

Renée Lani

General Counsel

Todd joined APGA in 2005 and is currently the Director of Operations and Administration for APGA, COO of the APGA Research Foundation, and the Executive Assistant for the APGA Security and Integrity Foundation.

In 2018 Todd earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as well as completed the Institute of Organization Management (IOM), a four-year nonprofit leadership training program.

Todd finished his undergraduate work at Kansas State University in Biological Science and Secondary Education. He then taught high school Biological, Chemical, and Physical Science for one year in Manhattan, Kansas and two years in Atchison, Kansas. He also served as an adjunct Physics professor for Benedictine College. Todd decided to go to graduate school as a Political Science student at Kansas State University.

He is a fourth-generation Kansan with strong ties to agriculture, energy, and business.

Todd works on the following issues and topics for APGA and APGA-related organizations: APGA General Membership and Office Administration; APGA RF Administration, Contributor Relationships, R&D Project Information and Updates; and, APGA SIF Administration, SHRIMP, Anti-Drug and Alcohol Tool, South Carolina Pipeline Safety Seminar.

Audrey Casey

Director of Communications & Marketing

Audrey Casey joined the American Public Gas Association in October of 2012. Prior to working at APGA, Audrey worked in communications at the American Chemistry Council where she represented and communicated industry issues to media, the public, down-stream users and policy makers. Issues that she worked on include safety, energy, federal regulation and product usage. Audrey has also worked at Politico in the advertising sales office and assisted in business development, growth and advertising revenue for the organization.

Audrey holds a bachelor's degree in communications from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. and a master's degree in journalism from Georgetown University.

Sheila Deringis

Director of Events, Finance & Membership

Sheila serves as Director of Events, Finance & Membership for APGA. In this role she is responsible for the planning and execution of all meetings and conferences as well as membership functions for APGA. She is also responsible for the financial activities of APGA, the APGA Research Foundation and the APGA Security & Integrity Foundation. Sheila serves as the staff executive for several APGA committees, including Annual Conference and Awards.

Prior to joining APGA in 1996, Sheila worked for a human resources consulting firm in Portland, Maine serving northern New England. She has also worked in the banking industry and seasonally at L.L. Bean.

Sheila graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

APGA would like to welcome our newest employee, Marghet Hager, who will be the new Director of Digital Strategy.

Marghet rejoins APGA after working to foster online peer-to-peer knowledge sharing for over 100,000 Microsoft Dynamics product users as the Member Community Manger for Dynamic Communities. While at Dynamic Communities, she leveraged the community platform to foster online collaboration and create new user group communities around Microsoft products such as Power BI and Dynamics 365. Marghet was previously employed with APGA for over eight years managing our websites, database, online community, and other digital properties. She is excited to be back with the APGA team and to enhance our members’ experience online.

Marghet received her Bachelor of the Arts degree from St. Olaf College in History, Religion, and Ancient Studies and completed courses in Digital Marketing at General Assembly’s D.C. campus to keep up with the rapidly changing communications landscape. She currently serves on the Product Advisory Board of Higher Logic, which is the software platform that runs APGA’s own online community.

Marghet Hager

Director of Digital Strategy

Simon joined the American Public Gas Association in March of 2015. Prior to joining APGA, he was a Legislative Correspondent for Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. In this capacity, he conducted policy research and tracked legislation for senior level committee staff, and drafted letters of response to constituents on a wide range of issues tied to the agricultural, environmental, and energy industries.

Before his two-year stint with the Senate Agriculture Committee, Simon completed an internship with Ducks Unlimited’s Governmental Affairs Office, as well as an internship on the Hill. While in college, he spent a summer semester in France and Belgium where he studied the European Union, globalization and social change in Europe. He enjoys travelling and has been to nine countries spanning three continents. In addition to his passion for travel, he is an avid golfer and outdoorsman.

Simon is originally from Holland, Michigan and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Michigan State University in East Lansing. He currently lives in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC.

Zachary joined APGA as their Engineering and Pipeline Safety Coordinator on July 7, 2025. Zach graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in May of 2025, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. While at UMBC, he acquired a number of certifications from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChe), focusing on safety and hazard recognition. These include certifications in Fire Hazards, Minimizing and Identifying Process Safety Hazards, Hazard Recognition, and Toxic and Explosion Hazard of Common Chemicals.

Zach worked as a Land Surveyor for AB Consultants, Inc. from 2018 to 2025. While working at AB he conducted surveys locating and designating underground utilities, construction As-Builts, stream reconstruction, bathometric survey, and sewer pipeline inspections.

Zach also trains boxing in his free time and is a boxing coach at Crazy 88 Mixed Martial Arts.
