Gas Certification Institute (GCI)

  • GCI - Gas Measurement Fundamentals & EFM Best Practices

    Jun 6 - 9, (ET)
The importance of measurement cannot be overstated, and this course provides participants a solid foundation to understand the impact of not following industry standards and best practices for measurement certainty. Seemingly minor discrepancies can have far-reaching results: adverse impact to revenue, noncompliance issues, breach of contracts, and possible litigation, so the need for accurate measurement is imperative. This training is also considered the first week of our two-week Gas Measurement Fundamentals Certification course. <Participants can enroll for both weeks consecutively or split the weeks over time.> By attending this instructor-led course, participants can return to their jobs and immediately apply the knowledge gained. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. #GCI

  • GCI - Gas Measurement Fundamentals Certification

    Jun 6 - 16, (ET)
Knowing how to perform measurement procedures is a great starting place, but knowing why procedures are performed in a specific manner is the ideal environment for personnel and the companies that employ them. As challenging as it may be, effectively delivering training is an increasingly important issue for today’s energy companies. Expediting training is also important for companies. Standards-based training can be difficult because it requires an instructor who has familiarity with applicable standards and can relate the importance of the measurement practice. Companies recognize that by developing a thorough understanding of gas measurement, personnel can contribute to maximizing measurement accuracy, thereby directly affecting the revenue generated through the sale, purchase, or transportation of natural gas. In addition to the topics covered in our Gas Measurement Fundamentals & EFM Best Practices course, instruction addresses linear meters (coriolis, ultrasonic, and turbine), the complete EGM system (primary, secondary, and tertiary devices), and the impact of measurement uncertainty based on processes and practices. The second week combines both lecture and hands-on exercises based on following industry standards and how deviation can induce measurement error. Participants have two options to gain a certification in gas measurement fundamentals: take the 9 days (over 2 consecutive weeks) or split the two weeks over time. We offer the full certification course 3 times each year, and the Gas Measurement Fundamentals & EFM Best Practices course (the first week) 4 times each year. #GCI

  • GCI - Fundamentals of Liquid Measurement

    Jun 20 - 22, (ET)
Virtually all hydrocarbons are bought and sold by volume; however, variations in component content and shrinkage due to molecular variation make it impossible to measure NGLs by volume. Measuring NGLs by mass, and subsequently calculating component volumes, demands accuracy and intimate knowledge of the processes involved. Learn the basics of properly measuring liquid to help your company control loss. Included is a brief history of flow measurement technology, various methods of liquid flow measurement currently in use, what can affect measurement accuracy and repeatability, and what to consider when selecting flow instrumentation for a particular application. By attending this instructor-led course, participants can return to their jobs and immediately apply the knowledge gained. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. #GCI
    Houston, TX, United States

  • GCI - Fundamentals of Crude Measurement

    Jul 11 - 13, (ET)
Grounded in API standards, this course provides participants with an understanding of the fundamentals of manual tank gauging, principle operations of dynamic meters, meter proving, factor calculation, asset balancing, and much more. By attending this instructor-led course, participants can return to their jobs and immediately apply the knowledge gained. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. #GCI

  • GCI - Back-Office Gas Measurement Fundamentals

    Jul 17 - 21, (CST)
The class will equip back-office professionals with the measurement fundamentals knowledge required to understand custody transfer practices, to identify and address common issues in measurement data, and to improve their interaction with field measurement personnel.  It emphasizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of measurement data throughout data collection, validation, and processing.  It teaches the fundamentals of gas measurement based upon AGA, API, and GPA standards, and provides context on how data should be processed, whether a company is using a commercial measurement software system, an in-house developed system, or outsourcing to a 3 rd  party. This course presents the fundamental concepts, terminology, standards, and best practices that natural gas custody measurement is based upon, focusing on the context needed by measurement analysts and other back-office professionals. While much attention is focused on the field custody transfer equipment and its operations, the data from the field devices must then be collected, validated, processed, and summarized prior to being used by accounting and other business units.  This course discusses validation of data to detect anomalies, errors, or missing data and how to address those issues, while maintaining the integrity of the custody transfer process. This class will not address navigation, use, editing, or configuration of specific measurement software systems, rather it equips users of these systems with the measurement knowledge needed to make sound decisions and to manage their workflow efficiently. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. #GCI

  • GCI - SCADA Fundamentals Certification

    Aug 8 - 11, (CST)
*Now available online. Beyond just ensuring their systems are in compliance with shifting regulations and standards, SCADA operators want to implement best practices. This course enables the industry to stay current with standards and the processes to properly apply them to their operations. SCADA environments require unique management and security considerations than a traditional enterprise network environment. This course provides participants detailed understanding of industry standards as well as how to safely and properly safeguard against the typical vulnerabilities that exist in SCADA environments. The SCADA Fundamentals Certification course prepares controllers, operations managers and support personnel to meet the unique challenges in today’s energy industry. The added study of the complete lifecycle of alarm management and controller support technology creates advanced awareness and knowledge key to effective controller operations and overall operational integrity. Students will gain a unique insight into successful alarm systems by examining the newly developed industry best practices leading to effective improvement planning in the SCADA/PCN environment. Students will also analyze security threats, including basic and highly advanced techniques used by attackers. This advanced level of knowledge is a key component in a complete security architecture plan, and these techniques are a distinguished skill set that only a small percentage of IT, and even security, professional actually carry. By attending this instructor-led course, participants can return to their jobs and immediately apply the knowledge gained. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. #GCI
