This week, APGA collaborated with the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) to provide input to the Department of Energy (DOE) on a Recent Executive Order (EO). Earlier in 2020, APGA became a member of BCSE and has been working with them on valuable efforts since then.
APGA through its BCSE membership, recently provided guidance to DOE raising questions on EO 13920, which was signed on May 1, 2020, and is titled “Securing the United States Bulk-Power System.” The objective of this EO is to provide DOE and other appropriate agencies the authority to take action to protect America’s bulk power system from foreign, bad actors. While the impacts of this EO are mostly on electric utility companies, it is addressing a threat to infrastructure components so APGA felt important to work with the BCSE in commenting to DOE. Specific input included APGA appreciating the US government’s desire to mitigate threats from foreign countries. As well, if there is a future opportunity for an EO taking similar action with natural gas infrastructure, APGA wants to be a part of those discussions to ensure members are prepared to comply with any actions required.
