APGA Members Continue to Serve Communities and Deliver Natural Gas
Washington, D.C. (March 20, 2020) – The American Public Gas Association, representing more than 700 local, municipally owned natural gas systems in 38 states, issued the following statement regarding the availability of natural gas during the COVID-19 crisis.
“APGA members are dedicated to continuing to supply American consumers with reliable, safe, efficient natural gas every day, and particularly so during these uncertain and trying times of COVID-19. APGA member gas systems operate critical infrastructure, necessary for Americans to have the energy they need. Our public gas systems have a long history of commitment to working with customers to ensure reliable access to natural gas, allowing for adequate health and safety.
“As members of their local communities, APGA members know more than ever what challenges are facing the towns and cities they serve. As such, most are instituting policies that will be considerate of the most vulnerable in this crisis. This includes not shutting off gas service. The reliability of natural gas that so many depend on and enjoy should not be compromised at this time.
“APGA and our members will monitor developments of COVID-19 and support communities during this time of uncertainty.”
APGA is the national association of municipally and publicly-owned local distribution systems. There are about 1,000 public gas systems serving more than 6 million customers. These public gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by, and accountable to, the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities.
