APGA Applauds FERC Action on Natural Gas Pricing Indices
Washington, D.C. (December 17, 2020) – The American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 700 local, municipally-owned natural gas systems in 38 states, issued the following statement in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) recent proposed policy statement and rulemaking pertaining to natural gas pricing indices:
“We are appreciative and supportive of FERC’s decision today to move forward with strengthening its natural gas pricing indices policy and initiating a rulemaking to codify that policy. Given the fact that our members across the country purchase nearly all of their gas under an index and often rely on what are illiquid price points, APGA has been focused and concerned about the accuracy of price indices for almost three decades. While price reporting entities have provided added transparency since the first pricing indices policy in 2003, FERC’s actions today will further ensure accuracy for purchasers who rely on an index. We hope that all industry participants, including our members, re-evaluate participation in price reporting, and we look forward to continued participation in this process.”
