In a very successful use of technology, APGA staff was able to present remotely from Washington, D.C., to both in-person and virtual attendees at this week’s Natural Gas Forum 2020. Stuart Saulters, APGA Vice President of Government Relations, opened the forum with a keynote specifically discussing how natural gas is part of the solution to America’s clean energy future. In the presentation, ways America’s public natural gas utilities are speaking up regarding legislation and regulation were detailed. Examples discussed were states passing balanced energy legislation in Arizona, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, as well as the positive changes to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Process Rule. Also, the valuable work of the Natural Gas Genius marketing campaign was discussed. There is still more work to do, though, as some are pushing for policies limiting Americans’ fuel choice. Upcoming efforts to continue explaining the need for natural gas in a balanced energy approach for our nation were overviewed. In addition to APGA staff, a representative from one of APGA’s members, Huntsville Utilities, shared on what to expect with gas supply for the rest of 2020 and into 2021. APGA appreciates this opportunity afforded by the LDC Gas Forum organization, as it offers the chance to inform and educate natural gas industry partners on the important work the association is doing. It also allows for encouraging all stakeholders to be an advocate to their family, friends, neighbors, and elected officials on the importance of natural gas for our nation’s clean energy future. APGA staff will continue to work with the LDC Gas Forums planning team to present in the future.
