APGA’s Model Building Codes Report Webinar

On July 11, APGA hosted a webinar to summarize the results of a sponsored study summarizing national model code requirements that may be problematic for direct use of natural gas in member jurisdictions. The study also proposes priorities of these requirements, initial views on options and alternatives that might be pursued through state and local amendments, and suggestions of potential allies for implementing the amendments. Model codes that were discussed come from the International Code Council (ICC), International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAMPO), and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards.

During the webinar, two great resources on code adoption were highlighted. APGA members may find it useful to review at these to see what codes are being used in their respective jurisdictions. Specifically, for ICC codes, please visit https://cdn-web.iccsafe.org/wp-content/uploads/Master-I-Code-Adoption-Chart-DEC.pdf. The Department of Energy’s code adoption guide can be found at https://www.energycodes.gov/status-state-energy-code-adoption.

The webinar was recorded and can be viewed at www.apga.org/webinars. For questions on this article, please contact Stuart Saulters of APGA staff by phone at 202-464-2742 or by email at ssaulters@apga.org.
