DOE’s Deputy Secretary Confirmed While FERC Commissioner Announces Departure

On August 4, the Senate voted to confirm Mark Menezes as the Deputy Secretary of Energy. Twenty-eight Democratic Senators joined their Republican colleagues in a 79-16 vote in favor of Menezes. Menezes has enjoyed broad bipartisan support in both of his confirmation hearings and has worked with both parties in his roles at the Department of Energy (DOE). Menezes' confirmation fills the post vacated by now-Secretary Dan Brouillette.

Additionally, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Commissioner Bernard McNamee issued a statement indicating his intent to depart FERC on September 4. McNamee’s departure has been anticipated since his announcement earlier this year that he would not seek a second term and will leave FERC with three members. However the President has nominated Mark Christie, a Republican, and Allison Clements, a Democrat, to fill the remaining openings at FERC. Senate hearings for the two nominees have not yet been scheduled.
