APGA Research Foundation Joins the North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative

On April 27, the APGA Research Foundation (RF) Board voted to join the North American Gas Heat Pump Collaborative (NAGHPC) and be a project participant in the Rinnai-GTI Gas Heat Pump Water Heater project. Gas heat pump technology will play an increasingly critical role as states and local communities work to improve energy efficiency and lower atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions. Using natural gas for space and water heating directly accomplishes these goals while its affordability and largely domestic production benefits local consumer economies.

The NAGHPC was formed by gas utilities with a mission to develop and implement activities to accelerate the adoption of gas heat pump technologies. The gas utilities in the collaborative currently represent close to 30 percent of the households in the U.S. and Canada that use natural gas. The focus of the NAGHPC is to create lasting change in the space conditioning and water heating markets through strategic market transformation activities and critical partnerships for the purpose of developing effective market pathways for the successful installations of gas heat pump technologies.

The RF invests in developing new and improved products, processes, practices and knowledge that increase the operational safety of natural gas infrastructure and increase the utilization of safe natural gas technologies. RF funded projects reach across the innovation cycle from idea generation, to product development, to commercialization.
