On August 21 and 22, the APGA Research Foundation (RF) and Gas Technology Institute (GTI) invited all current RF contributors and any system thinking about joining the Foundation to GTI’s Des Plaines, Ill. research facilities for the 2019 Fall Forum.

On the first day, attendees and GTI research staff discussed utilization and emerging end-use technologies (UTD).  As part of this discussion attendees were able to see combined heat and power technology being developed, tested and refined.  As well, there were commercial cooking equipment cost effectiveness demonstrations and displays of a new technology related to the compression, expansion and transportation of natural gas, specifically to address the issue of full fuel fills.  Considering its promises for clean energy, ongoing renewable natural gas projects were highlighted, too.

On second day, the conversation shifted to operations technology development (OTD).  Attendees were able to see technology to locate untraceable plastic pipe, as well as new plastic piping with built-in traceability tags.  Additionally, multi-directional tapping and pigging tools and commercially available break-away meter sets were exhibited. Finally, there was a drone and robot demonstration for both pipeline inspection and methane detection.
