The Carolinas Public Gas Association (CPGA) met in Myrtle Beach, S.C., September 15-18. Erin Kurilla, APGA Vice President of Operations & Safety, presented to attendees on APGA policy positions and member programs. She briefed members on the proposed contents of the Pipeline Safety Reauthorization, the justification for some of the proposals, and the path forward to finalize the legislation. She also introduced APGA’s new Mutual Aid Program, recognized CPGA members that have received System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) awards, and discussed APGA’s positions on Public Awareness requirements.

CPGA members also heard presentations on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) facilities, environmental compliance issues, adding telemetry and SCADA to their systems, and utilizing GIS for asset management. They had an excellent member update session where each member briefed attendees on their system’s upcoming projects, current challenges, and informed the associate members how they may be of assistance. Workforce development and lead times on materials were two reoccurring challenges that were highlighted by the membership.

APGA staff appreciates the opportunity to participate in local, regional, and statewide association meetings and thanks CPGA for the invitation.
