At the 2019 APGA Operations Conference, APGA’s Executive Vice President and Incoming CEO, Dave Schryver, presented plaques to the APGA Safety Contest winners. The APGA Safety Contest is an annual award given out to APGA public natural gas system members for dedication to safety based on the systems' overall incident (lost work time) rates. Public natural gas systems are divided into six groups based on annual number of man-hours worked, and the winner of each group is calculated based on total man-hours worked and lost hours due to accident or injury from January 1 to December 31 of the calendar year.

In his remarks, Dave stated that “Safety is paramount when operating a natural gas pipeline system. The communities you serve trust you to operate your system safely. However, just as important is the safety of your employees. Each day your employees and their families trust that they will go home safely.” In his presentation, Dave singled out: two members that had received the award for the fifth consecutive year (the City of Lawrenceville Georgia and Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities); two systems that had received an award for the 10th consecutive year (Chester County Natural Gas Authority and Paris-Henry County Public Utility District); and City of Utilities of Springfield Missouri, which has received an award for the 15th consecutive year.
