At its January 28 meeting, the APGA Board of Directors unanimously approved three new nominations to the Public Gas Policy Council (PGPC) for 2019. The PGPC is an advocacy group made up of elected and appointed officials from public gas communities. The primary purpose of the PGPC is to assist APGA in communicating with members of Congress the priorities for public gas systems. The PGPC also provides advice on legislative related issues of importance to APGA. The group also serves as a forum for elected officials to discuss public gas issues. Locally elected and appointed public officials have a strong, persuasive, and authoritative voice in Washington, D.C. with their elected representatives in both the House and Senate. Having a core group of elected officials carry the public gas message to Congress has significantly strengthened APGA’s advocacy efforts.

The new representatives to the PGPC include: Dorothy Hubbard, Mayor of the City of Albany, Ga.; Shelly Berryhill, Councilman for the City of Hawkinsville, Ga.; and Troy Besseche, Assistant City Manager for the City of Sugar Hill, Ga.

PGPC members come to Washington, D.C. each year in the spring to participate in the APGA Government Relations Conference, which includes meeting with their representatives to discuss public gas issues. This year’s conference is scheduled for May 7 and 8.
