APGA Attends WGC Exhibit Hall

Last week, APGA staff attended the 27th World Gas Conference (WGC) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The WGC featured over 12,000 attendees representing 100 countries, 600 speakers, and various sessions and meetings spanning the entirety of the natural gas industry.

The centerpiece of the WGC was the 40,000 square foot exhibition hall where companies of all sizes showcased various technologies, products, projects, and more. WGC featured over 350 exhibitors, including supermajors, pipeline companies, liquefied natural gas (LNG) companies, state owned enterprises and foreign energy ministries, government officials, and products from up, mid, and downstream entities.

A significant portion of the exhibition hall focused on downstream entities and the direct use of natural gas technologies. These exhibitions featured distribution pipes and technologies, valve and meter products, leak detection and other pipeline safety products, and numerous transportation entities.

While a significant portion of the exhibition hall was dedicated to supermajors, LNG exports, and state sponsored enterprises, the booths and exhibits featuring technologies relating to direct use and which impact APGA members garnered significant attention from industry attendees. Companies such as 3M, Honeywell, Ariel, Emerson, and others demonstrated various downstream natural gas products and applications.

Ariel, producer of gas compressors, brought out a full-sized working cutaway replica of their gas compressor to demonstrate the inner workings of their product. 3M demonstrated their line of plastic pipe locators and other safety products. Both Emerson and Honeywell displayed various downstream technologies.

EC Power, a Danish firm, rolled out their line of micro-combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Micro-CHP and other combined heat applications continue to grow by leaps and bounds and are a key technology to the future of the direct use sector. EC Power’s XRGI CHP model claims to be 96 percent efficient and easily integrated into a home or other residential location.

The WGC exhibition hall showcased a wide range of end use and downstream natural gas technologies. From CHP to safety and vehicle technologies, end use technologies were well represented.
