On July 24, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 14-9 in favor of President Trump’s nomination of Daniel Simmons to serve as Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) at the Department of Energy. APGA has been actively engaged in the work of EERE given their role in developing appliance efficiency standards.

APGA had sent a letter to the Senate Energy Committee in support of the nomination. In the letter, APGA stated that “Mr. Simmons’ knowledge and experience provides him with the tools to “pursue the goal of providing affordable energy for all Americans. Energy is the lifeblood of America’s economy and Mr. Simmons skills and leadership will play a critical role in ensuring that consumers continue to benefit from our current supply of abundant domestic energy resources.” The letter urged that the nomination move quickly and successfully through the Committee and the full Senate.

The next step will be a vote on the floor of the full Senate. A copy of the letter of support that APGA sent is available on the APGA website. If you have any questions on this article, please contact Dave Schryver of APGA’s staff by phone at 202-464-2742 or by email at dschryver@apga.org.
