Extenders Package Introduced in the Senate

On December 20, legislation titled the Tax Extender Act of 2017 was introduced in the Senate. The legislation extends a number of expiring, or expired, tax credits. The legislation includes a two-year (one year back, one year forward) extension of the excise tax credit for alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG), and the alternative fuel vehicle refueling property investment tax credit. It also reinstates the investment tax credit for combined heat and power (CHP) and fuel cell technologies. APGA had worked with NGVAmerica and others on the natural gas vehicle (NGV) credits as well as on the CHP and fuel cell credits. These credits expired at the end of 2016. The inclusion of these extensions is a very positive development.

At this point, the timing of this legislation moving forward remains unclear. There is potential that the extenders package may be attached to legislation which continues funding of the federal government through January 19th. The funding for the federal government is currently set to expire at midnight on December 22.
