On June 22, APGA will hold a webinar on Zero Net Energy (ZNE) homes.  The webinar will provide an overview of a report released by the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) on ZNE homes.  The report, which was funded by APGA, summarizes the current state of the zero net energy home market, typical design approaches drawn from ZNE case studies, and the competitiveness of mixed-fuel ZNE technology options compared to all-electric designs.  The report also addresses the challenged and opportunities for natural gas in ZNE homes.

The report communicates that natural gas has a number of advantages as a fuel for ZNE homes.  For example, natural gas enables lower-cost ZNE implementations which need smaller solar panels to offset their source energy use. Natural gas also has high consumer acceptance for space heating, water heating, cooking, and clothes drying applications. Unfortunately, natural gas also has some challenges as a fuel for ZNE homes. These challenges include the fact that many ZNE builders are opting for an all-electric approach.

A copy of the GTI report is available on the APGA website.  Information on how to register for the webinar is also available on the APGA website at www.apga.og/webinars.  APGA will also be hosting a mid-year government relations update webinar on July 12, and Tom Tanton will present a webinar on the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) study on July 20.  Registration is available online for these webinars as well.
