On June 26, the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee held a hearing to consider nominees for four senior Department of Energy (DOE) positions. The President’s nominee for Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is Daniel Simmons. For the last year, Mr. Simmons has been the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in EERE and for a time, the Acting Assistant Secretary.

On June 22, APGA submitted a letter of support for Daniel Simmons nomination. APGA has been actively engaged in the work of EERE given their role in developing appliance efficiency standards and we have met with Mr. Simmons, in his role as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at EERE, several times. In addition, Mr. Simmons is scheduled to speak at this year’s APGA Annual Conference on the morning of July 23.

As Mr. Simmons’ nomination works its way through the Senate, APGA will continue to support his nomination. For questions on this article, please contact Dan Lapato of APGA staff by phone at 202-464-2742 or by email at dlapato@apga.org.
