DOE’s Annual Average Cost Numbers

By Dan Lapato posted 08-17-2017 12:11 PM

Early this year, the Department of Energy (DOE) published its annual revision to their representative average cost of energy for the five major residential energy resources. These numbers are used by DOE to estimate a piece of residential equipment’s annual operating cost. This information is also the basis for estimating the yearly operating cost found on every appliance’s yellow EnergyGuide label. This label is used by consumers when they are comparing pieces of equipment and many times can weigh on their purchase agreement.

The 2017 natural gas prices for residential customers continue to demonstrate natural gas’ incredible price advantage over the other four major energy types. Click here for the charts showing the 2016 and 2017 numbers.
